Indiana Pacers vs New York Knicks Match Preview

As the Indiana Pacers come off an Eastern Conference finals appearance against the Boston Celtics, they won their first game this year against the Detroit Pistons. Showing more strides from last season’s impressive offensive performances, Rick Carlisle had got this group to be better on defense as well. Although their star Tyrese Haliburton, was 1-9 from three with just 15 points, his 3 blocks and 2 steals should motivate Pacers fans for improvement on both sides. With center Myles Turner, 20 points plus 9 rebounds, continuing to show his ability as one of the best offensive big men in NBA play, his three-point shooting ability was really on display. Given that Siakam, 18 points with 9 assists and 8 boards,  has lived up to the excitement when Indiana traded for him last year, he is basically like the 2nd big star on this team. As Andrew Nembhard, 7 assists against the Pistons, showed his passing display, it was vital when he was setting up Bennedict Mathurin, 19 points, for great looks off the bench. As Aaron Nesmith finished the night with 2 blocks and one steal, he will continue being a vital piece for this defense's growth.

Meanwhile, the New York Knicks didn’t live up to their all-in mentality after losing to Boston, 132-109 on opening night. With Karl-Anthony Towns, 12 points and 7 rebounds, still trying to fit him, their goal will be for him to be a stretch 5 with the ability to shoot deep mid-range shots. As Jalen Brunson will be their leader at the point and bringing up the ball, he looked like one of the bright spots for the Knicks on opening night scoring 22 points. At a 9-14 field goal rate, he can create a great combo with Mikal Bridges, 16 points against Celtics, as time goes on. Since Bridges came to New York this offseason and still trying to get in a rhythm after going 2-7 from three, he and Miles McBride, 80% from three against Boston,  will hold down the shooting guard position well. If New York gets more out of Jericho Sims off the bench with Mitchell Robinson hurt, this could be the 2nd best team in the East.

Indiana Pacers vs New York Knicks Betting Tips

Total Match Points Over 225.5- As both teams have continued improving offensively between mid-last season to now, this should be a very high-scoring game. In their last matchup during the playoffs, 239 points were scored and Indiana had looked good on defense then too.

Total Points in the First Half Over 122.5- As Indiana averaged 61.5 points per game in the first half last year, adding Mikal Bridges and Karl Anthony-Towns should help the Knicks score way more than their 55.2 average last year during the first and second quarters combined. As they scored 115 points last time they met up, this game should have a huge increase.

New York Knicks Score Over 110 Points During Whole Game- As the Knicks' improvements have gotten them into a complete offensive rotation, they should continue attacking a Pacers defense that has been a lot better so far. With this being their first home game in Madison Square Garden and having scored 111 points or more in their last 5 matchups against Indiana, this scoring unit should be on point.

Indiana Pacers vs New York Knicks Match Prediction

Although the Pacers had won in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season, the New York Knicks have gotten many key pieces back from injury and upgraded their roster a lot. A team that has championship aspirations and looks to contend with Boston to represent the East, this will be a big game for them as they face off against another great contender. Looking at the Pacers, even though Tyrese Haliburton will be able to create turnovers against Brunson, Jalen’s tenacity and fierceness will help him drive in a lot. In addition, his unwillingness to give up on defense and support from Josh Hart creating doubles could force Haliburton into a lot of bad shots again. Pascal SIakam will have a clear mismatch on former teammate OG Annunoby, but Karl-Anthony Towns could potentially use his athletic ability to be a blocking machine in Myles Turner. Given that the Knicks have more depth on the bench with Precious Achiuwa and Miles McBride being able to use their bigger frames, they will outscore guys like Obi Toppin or Bennedict Mathurin in bench points. If New York’s struggles continue though and Haliburton gets to a great rhythm offensively, this could be a very different game for Indiana.

Our Prediction- New York Knicks to Win!
