Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has praised teammate Cole Palmer and predicted that the young forward has yet to reach his full potential. Signed from Manchester City in 2023, Palmer has made an electrifying start to his Chelsea career which prompted Colwill to warn Premier League rivals.
“The scary thing is, he can go on a level yet,” Colwill said while talking about Palmer’s impressive performances right from the time he joined the Blues. Debuting in the previous Premier League season, Palmer scored 25 goals and registered 15 assists in 45 matches to quickly become a key player for the team. This spectacular form resulted in his call-up to the England squad where he went on to score in the Euro 2024 final against Spain.

Notably, Palmer’s momentum has extended into the new season as he scored six goals and four assists in just eight outings under manager Enzo Maresca. In the recent 4-2 win of Chelsea over Brighton, Palmer was in outstanding form and scored all the four goals for the team.
Colwill also gave credit to Maresca for his immense guidance to help Palmer polish his skills and described the forward as “a massive player” for Chelsea. “He helps us so much, and he certainly did in this game to help us get the three points. The best players in football have that bit of magic to pull you out of sticky situations. He did that against Brighton, he helped us turn the game around with four big goals. He turns half chances into goals. He’s a really special player,” Colwill mentioned.
Colwill on Maresca’s Role
The defender has been regularly training under Maresca who replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the summer. He has highlighted the improvement visible under his individual performance as well as that of the team under the guidance of former Leicester coach. “At times it really clicked for us and when we do play our best football, we look very dangerous. We’ve also got that extra spark in us to win games through sheer talent, which showed with how Cole performed,” he added.
As Chelsea hopes to return to the Premier League top four, Palmer’s performance stands crucial to the club’s hopes for silverware this season.
