Fenerbahce full-back Ferdi Kadioglu has put pen to paper on a contract with Brighton. The Premier League club has scored a deal to bring the Turkish international to England. While Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho was not eager to see Kadioglu leave, the club could not stop the youngster. He wants to play top-level football in the Premier League and wants to leave this summer. After signing Kadioglu, Brighton has taken spending in this transfer window to more than $250 million.
The 24-year-old Kadioglu, who has played 20 times for Turkey and was a starter at the recent European Championship, has signed a four-year deal and will cost Brighton a reported 30 million euros ($33.5 million). The transfer is subject to international clearance and a successful work permit application.
Brighton's Summer Shopping Spree: Strengthening the Ranks
“I’m very excited because we are getting an excellent player and a great character. He has great ability, is a strong runner and very good at passing," Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler said. “He is predominantly a fullback and can play on the right or left side. He can also play in the center of midfield.
“He is someone who is very keen to learn and develop, and with that in mind, I’m confident he will adjust to the Premier League and adapt quickly to English football.” According to reports, Ferdi Kadioglu was also seen as a potential option for Manchester United’s fullback woes, but the club never made a move for him.
After getting back-to-back victories in the opening games, Brighton has backed the 31-year-old Hurzeler for his first season at the club since arriving from St. Pauli. Brighton beat Manchester United in their last game and played beautiful football throughout the match. Erik Ten Hag’s side struggled to find solutions to Brighton’s dangerous attacks. Brighton has now signed Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Brajan Gruda, Matt O'Riley, and now Ferdi Kadioglu.
