Chelsea Signs Pedro Neto from Wolves: Strengthening the Squad for 2024-25 Season
Chelsea have signed Portuguese winger Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in their latest summer transfer. Pedro is the tenth player to join Chelsea this summer. The 24-year-old has signed a seven-year £54 million plus £2.6 million add-on contract to join Chelsea. As the team's new head coach, Enzo Maresca looks to reshape the squad, team combination, and depth ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The winger represented five seasons at Wolverhampton, making 111 appearances and scoring 11 goals. Last season, he netted two goals and made nine assists in 20 appearances.
Neto said on his arrival at Stamford Bridge, "I feel grateful to have joined this club. I have worked hard in my career to be here, and I'm looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt."
A club executive from the Wolves said, “It was the right deal at the right time" for the club, and that work on options and targets to replace Neto was ongoing.
Pedro was unveiled at halftime on Sunday at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea played a pre-season game against Inter Milan. He joins the likes of Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, and Mykhailo Mudryk, extending the depth and providing the much-needed balance for Chelsea.
Where will Pedro Nato Fit In?
Pedro is an attacking midfielder and is predominantly a left-footed winger who often operates from the right side of the field, and Chelsea has considerable depth on both the left and right flanks. He is expected to be more of a backup player to the team’s prominent wingers and midfielders and come off the bench.
It will be interesting to see how the new head coach, Enzo Maresca, operates and whether he will use the young, talented player more often or just restrict him to a limited time off the bench.
Major Signings Made by Chelsea
Apart from Pedro Nato, Chelsea has signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo and has also finalised a deal with Palmeiras teenager Estevao Willian. Still, the youngster will not be part of the squad this season and will arrive for the 2025-2026 season.
