Erling Haaland scores in Manchester City's win over chelsea

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is eyeing making five Premier League Titles in a row. And they’ve kicked off their season with a stunning display.  The master has beaten the protégé in a splendid display from both sides.

Despite the good fight from Enzo Maresca’s young Chelsea side, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City came out on top. Chelsea couldn’t capitalize on their created chances.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has now beaten 72 of the 75 managers he has faced in the Premier League, with Enzo Maresca managing his first game in the competition today. 

The only three managers he has faced and not beaten are Aitor Karanka, Steve Agnew and Ronald Koeman. Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland silenced Chelsea’s Defender Marc Cucurella in this stunning victory over Chelsea.

The 24-year-old Norwegian’s Premier League Golden Boot tally sits at two, and he’s a heavy favorite to make it three. Haaland has 64 Premier League goals in 66 league appearances, as he entered the season 37 goals away from 100 in the English top flight.

Manchester City started their campaign with a decisive win at Stamford Bridge. Haaland opened the scoring in the first half, and Mateo Kovacic sealed the victory with a late goal, giving Pep Guardiola’s side the perfect start.

After the match, Haaland commented on Cucurella’s recent antics. Previously, Cucurella sang (Chant) at Spain’s Euro Cup win celebrations.

Cucurella became a fan favourite during Spain’s 2024 UEFA Euro victory, where they defeated England 2-1 in the final. During the celebrations, Cucurella was seen leading a chant that referenced Haaland, which quickly went viral among Spanish supporters.

The lyrics of the chant playfully warned Haaland to “watch out” for Cucurella: “Cu Cu Cucurella, eat a paella. Cu Cucurella drinks an Estrella. Haaland trembles, here comes Cucurella. Haaland trembles. Have a cookie.”
